Locations affected: Rain and storms will impact the entire region. Wintry precipitation may impact higher elevations of northeast Pennsylvania and northwestern New Jersey. Tidal flooding will impact the New Jersey and Delaware coasts and the Delaware Bay shore.
Timing: Multiple rounds of rain and storms are expected tonight (Sunday night) into Monday morning and Tuesday into Thursday morning. Wintry mix may impact higher elevations in the southern Poconos and northwestern New Jersey as early as Tuesday night into Wednesday then especially Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Tidal flooding may impact coastal communities beginning at the Tuesday night high tide cycle.
Impacts:
For the rain and storms... A total of 2-3 inches of rain will fall over several days, beginning tonight and continuing through Thursday morning. The heaviest rainfall is expected Tuesday into Wednesday and by this time, the combination of these rounds of rain could bring some of our river forecast points into flood stage across the Raritan, Rancocas, and Passaic river basins. There is also a marginal risk of flash flooding occurring at this time, which may result in isolated poor drainage, urban, and small stream flooding. Some storms may also be strong to marginally severe Tuesday afternoon and evening.
For the wintry mix... Hazardous travel is possible across higher elevations beginning as early as Tuesday night in spots.
For the coastal flooding... Minor tidal flooding (with spotty moderate flooding possible) across the New Jersey and Delaware coasts and the Delaware Bay shore midweek.
