More exciting news on our new skatepark!
As announced on October 21 of this year, Highlands was awarded a Green Acres funding package of nearly $600,000 to provide the town with a new, concrete skatepark at the Recreation Center. That funding package consisted of a grant in the amount of $149,753 and low-interest (2%) loan of $449,260. On September 1, the Council approved R-21-173 which sought additional funding under the Monmouth County Municipal Open Space Grant Program, in an amount up to $250,000, to offset costs to the borough.
Today we are pleased to announce that Highlands has been awarded $200,000 from the Monmouth County Open Space Trust Fund. This amount will be used to offset the low-interest loan component of the Green Acres funding package and further reduce the borough’s cost to construct this new skatepark. While the borough will continue to pursue additional grants for the remainder of the construction cost, this is a substantial contribution by the county.
The Mayor and Council would like to thank the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Monmouth for their consideration and commitment to the residents of Highlands as we continue to improve our valuable open spaces.
