In 2021, updates will be made at Huddy, Snug Harbor and Veterans Parks. These improvements will include new playground apparatus, new basketball and tennis courts at Snug Harbor, and exercise equipment for kids of all ages. Also, rubber mulch and/or mats will be added for safety.
The funds to support these enhancements come from Open Space commitments of $260,800 which had been bonded by ordinance 17-03. Additionally, $200,000 has been allocated in the 2021 budget for parks. Further offsetting the cost for these changes are anticipated reimbursements from Monmouth County Open Space Grants.
The total purchase cost for all of the 2021 Park Improvements are $291,928, which includes installation. The Highlands DPW will do a great deal of the demolition and prep work, saving the Borough thousands of dollars.
Equipment for the new parks are expected to be delivered to the borough by August 20, 2021. Dates for installation, including the preparation of the area ahead of installation, will be published ASAP both on the borough website as well as our official social media channels so that residents can plan accordingly.
